Battle Mage Secrets, Weekly Challenge, Lost Magic!

Last week was about not having legendary monsters, this week is no magic, both change the environment of the fight a lot! Taking away roughly a third of the monsters this week means that shields are going to come into play a lot! Even though there is a lot of magic coming through on the image, that is just for summoning the monsters for the fight! Let’s see how we handle not having magic in a fight.

This changes the dynamic of the fight so much, you want to be on the lookout for some important things with this fight, shields are great, healing is great, keeping people alive is a great thing, but just stay away from some of the magic.

The battle that we are examining for this one is a mid-level mana cap at 30 plus:

Earthquake: Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.
Lost Magic: Monsters with Magic attack may not be used in battles

This becomes rough, I need to be on the lookout for flying monsters to stay alive, but also, knowing that they will be hitting me hard does not make my life easier.
Here is the quick link to the battle, from the Silver Wild league: (Link) however, I will break it down, then you might want to watch again.
The opening shot:

First up, the Summoner:

I don’t use the Drake of Arnak much, but in this case, I wanted that extra shield to help with that earthquake, only having Light and Fire, wasn’t too many good choices with my cards, so this fit the bill.

The front line was a martyr:

A good soulbound card on this one, knowing it will die quickly, I wanted the Martyr ability for the next card in the pile to live longer.

I do like the Chaos Knight, and not just because of the name! This time around it is for that shield ability, knowing she won’t take too much damage quickly, but the hitting for 3 each round, a good thing!

Next up, starting flying:

Knowing the Marksrat will die quickly, having the reach means this one will be hitting for a while behind the Knight, having flying means it will not be taking damage from the earthquake.

This one actually becomes the off-tank, ready to hit the line, but still do well with a decent amount of health.

The next part of the strategy is up with the Celestial Harpy

Opportunity attack on this one, hoping to knock down shields or take out the wayward soul, flying again with this one.

Lastly:

Here comes the Devil! Flying, closer range, doing 2 damage a round, should stay in the fight for awhile.

My initial thoughts on this one is to have a good amount flying around, hoping that my opponent chooses non-flying monsters so that I can win with the earthquake. Meanwhile, having that extra shield and health up front should allow my guys to stay in the fight longer.

Was looking at shield and flight, but then they had 3 monsters on the ground in the back, but sneak and opportunity, so it doesn’t look the best for me, but having the flight longer might help me win this one.

They knocked out my devil with the sneak attack, but the marksrat up front, made the Chaos Knight stick around with that shield that really hurt their damage against me, a great match for me to win!

Things to keep in mind with the Lost Magic ruleset:

• Abilities like shield and shield repair, awesome to have!
• Breaking armor, is another great ability to have on this one
• Keeping people in the fight is important, armor, heal, other abilities do help
• Flying and Dodge are useful to make them miss their attacks
