Battle Mage Secrets, Weekly Challenge, Rise of the Commons

image.png

I know it has been a couple of weeks since my last one, hopefully things will calm down a little bit for me so I can get back to this weekly again, you know it is a weekly challenge!

Second, I have to say, I love the art of the rebellion set, they just look so awesome, Splinterlands really is upping the art game with every set, just keep them coming please!

Anyway, this week is the Rise of the Commons, meaning you don’t get to choose those epic and legendary summons!

Obviously, this changes the game a lot, many of the strategies depend upon those heavy hitters, but this time, it is about the under representative peeps. They are powerful and they are coming for you!

The battle that we are examining for this one is a Mid-level mana cap at 30 plus:

Earthquake: Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.
Rise of the Commons: Only Common and Rare Monsters may be used in battles.

So this changes a lot, that earthquake can be bad, but if you know how to counter it, it does work well, then keeping up with the other team, I can do this!

Here is the quick link to the battle, from the Silver Wild league: (Link) however, I will break it down, then you might want to watch again.
The opening shot:

First up, the Summoner:

Knowing that the earthquake is there can be rough, but having that speed to go first, but then the addition of the armor, means my team will be in the fight longer!

The front line was the Cruel Sethropod

In lower mana situations, I pull out this one a lot, just decent skills all the way through, which is important!

This one is about the flight, keeping it around for a little longer is important, but the other side of that is the void armor, can help against magic hits.

This one is here for a couple of reasons actually, the ranged damage is okay, but knowing it will die, that is where the Martyr ability comes into play, bumping up the lion and the bandit, means they hit harder and live longer, while still flying.

Next up:

One of my favorite older reward cards, the flight, the speed, oh yeah, the sneak, which is what I was going for this time around, start taking out that back row and it should go good for me!

Next up:

This is a card I use a lot in the earthquake ruleset, the flying is nice to keep it around, the close range, incase it gets that way is useful, but the 3 ranged damage, that is important!

Lastly:

This is one of the reward cards that I really like, 2 ranged damage is nice, the cripple means that it will knock the other team down a little bit, really useful to get through shields, add in the Life Leech and it means this one will stick around a little longer, even with earthquake!

So, using what I have I pulled three flying monsters on this one, so that it negates some of the earthquake, I have a monster up front that should stick around for a little while at least. Then I have a martyr there to boost up a couple of my monsters, important. Then I have the cripple at the back end to hopefully live out a little while and take them down.

The enemy went light on this one, extra shields, lots of damage coming my way, but they only have one summon with fly on it, which might be the downfall. It looks like they want to do a good amount of damage quickly, hoping to take me down before earthquake gets them.

With them using the magic damage, that means my first guy is going to die pretty quickly, but it will stick around at least for a round, which is helpful. They did take out my front lines pretty quickly, I did have some nice misses that helped, but the big one that did work in my favor was that cripple, I did some sneaky damage with it, by that I mean that when it hits the shield, it still takes down the health of the summons, which is a good thing! This was a good win for me!

Things to keep in mind with the Rise of the Common ruleset:
• Pick good synergistic summons that will stick around
• Pay attention if there are other rules, they can make a difference
• Don’t be afraid to try something weird, sometimes it works out well!
