Battle Mage Secrets, Weekly Challenge, Taking Sides

They did it again! The art again is amazing, adding this one to the lineup, just awesome! I really like the Splinterlands tattoo on the shoulder, just captures it all so well!

Anyway, let’s talk about not having Switzerland on our teams, aka, no neutral units in the fight, this use to only affect the monsters, but since there is at least one neutral summoner, it takes that one out of the mix as well.

This does change things a lot, no neutral peeps, so you need to make sure you are using cards that belong to the same splint and that they synergize well, and you want to get more victory points, make sure you own the cards!

The battle that we are examining for this one is a midish-level mana cap at 36 plus:

Taking Sides: Neutral Monsters may not be used in battles.
Up to Eleven: All Monsters have the Amplify ability.

Amplify always changes the fights, something to keep in mind, but I wanted to make sure I had some good synergy between my people for the win.

Here is the quick link to the battle, from the Silver Wild league: (Link) however, I will break it down, then you might want to watch again.

The opening shot:

First up, the Summoner:

In this one I know that I have a very strong water line up, but also making sure I have that extra shield and the speed never hurts!

The front line was Noa the Just

Two fold on this one, decent armor and health, which is good, but I was really looking at the Rust ability, taking away their shields, a very important thing so that my other peeps can hit harder!

Another great tank, incase they bring lots of magic to bear and Noa goes down, Baakjira should be able to hang around for a good amount of time, now slowing down the other team, a nice boost!

Next up:

One of my favorite older reward cards, the flight, the speed, oh yeah, the sneak, which is what I was going for this time around, start taking out that back row and it should go good for me!

A strong part of my strategy, keeping people in the fight, since I am going to be attack the other peeps, I need to make sure my tanks stay in the game, that is where the Guardian comes in with the tank heal.

Another great card and the second to my strategy, the opportunity strike, take out the people besides the tank, and it goes well for me!

Lastly:

I did mess up on my placement of this one, I should have put it next to the guardian for weapons training, but oh well. Anyway, the last part of the strategy, another opportunity strike to knock out that backline and win from the back in.

My initial thoughts on this one was to keep the two tanks alive while using sneak and opportunity to take out the rest of the monsters, pretty straight forward.

The enemy went earth on this one with Mylor, a pain in the rear, literally! The thorns ability is a great counter to my backline attack, especially since I am not using any ranged or magic monsters, every hit is going to cost me.

The thorns hurt a lot on this one, and I just barely made it, my last damage monster took out their last one, other than that it would have been a long slog until round 20 hit, but, this time it worked in my favor!

Things to keep in mind with the Taking Sides ruleset:
• Look for synergy within the splinter
• Use your strongest splinter, if possible
• Pay attention to the other rules, it will change the fight even more
• Don’t be afraid to try something weird, sometimes it works out well!
