Battle Mage Secrets, Weekly Challenge, What Doesn’t Kill You

image.png

The name for this one always reminds me of a friend of mine who served in the military, he would always say “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but I’ve been shot twice, and I don’t fill stronger about it!!!” Yeah, he really did hate that phrase, I’m not a big fan of it myself.

So you know, instead of making you stronger, it just kind of pisses you off, maybe an Enrage?

This one does change things a little bit, as monsters take damage, guess what, it makes them mad, like they want to get into a bar fight, but not so much help for range and magic types.

The battle that we are examining for this one is a low level mana cap at 14 plus:

What Doesn’t Kill You: All Monsters have the Enrage ability.
Counterspell: All Monsters have the Magic Reflect ability.

This is a hard one, you want monsters that are great values, but provide some strong hits at the same time. Also, having some health means that the enrage ability will help them out more than hurt.
Here is the quick link to the battle, from the Silver Wild league: (Link) however, I will break it down, then you might want to watch again.

First up, the Summoner:

Knowing that melee will get a bump, I decided to start with that bump to begin with, going with Tarsa, not only helps the damage, but that extra health, I hope that my monsters will stick around for just a little longer to use that anger.

The front line was the Chaos Agent

No damage on this one, but the strategy was to have him last a little bit, not much health, but if he takes a hit he should live a little bit, making him go faster, but then using the dodge ability to hopefully cause the other guys to miss at least a couple of times, allowing the sneak attacks to hit.

At one mana, this guy is here to fill a spot, hopefully with the bump to health he will stick around for more than one hit, but who knows, I just needed some space between my next two.

Next up:

One of my favorite cards in the Chaos Legion and the Fire splinter, the sneak, yeah, good stuff, but with Tarsa, a 4 damage and 7 hit points, means he will stick around and inflict some pain on the enemy.

I do like Uraeus, 3 mana, but also the sneak, for the second part of the strategy, keep hitting that back line! The shield will also help, with counterspell around more melee and ranged will be there, giving him and extra turn to do some damage.

Lastly:

Kind of a throwaway, but also a protector, at 0 mana a must in this low of a battle, but having him here means it should give me a little bit more time to do my damage to that back line.

My initial thoughts on this one is making sure to have a good bang for my buck, meaning, a lot of low mana monsters, I was able to get 5 in there, which means things will last a little longer with it, but I also would like to start from the back and knock them off quickly hoping my smaller guys will last in the front.

The enemy went fire as well, just a different strategy, having that snipe in the back, while still having some sneak attack, just not as much as mine, lots of throwaway monsters in the front.

The shield really did help me on this one, it allow Uraeus one more hit, which allowed me to take out their striker in round with both my sneak, otherwise it could have been bad. The timing worked out in the front as well, the Chaos Agent living through 2 hits, but then my Scorcher coming in and taking out two as well, perfect!

Things to keep in mind with the What Doesn’t Kill You ruleset:
• Look for high health so that you can take advantage of the rage
• Dodge is good to use that faster speed
• Melee monsters get the biggest boost, use them
• Double down on the sneak and opportunity attacks so that you kill be for they go
