This time I come to share with all of you my new participation for the @splinterlands art contest. I chose for this week the character Croire and as part of a new style practice I made an illustration with a different coloring than the one I usually work with, although I didn't get the result I wanted without a doubt this illustration helped me a lot to practice, I hope you like it and thanks for stopping by!

En esta oportunidad vengo a compartir con todos ustedes mi nueva participación para el concurso de arte de @splinterlands. Elegí para esta semana al personaje Croire y como parte de una nueva practica de estilos realice una ilustración con un coloreado diferente al que suelo trabajar, aunque no logre el resultado que quería sin duda esta ilustración me sirvió muchísimo para practicar. ¡Espero les guste y gracias por pasar por aquí!

I started making the sketch of my character, as I had never drawn a crocodile before I had some difficulties for the anatomy so my sketch was really dirty during all this process, I had to use additional colors to separate the clothes and accessories so I didn't get lost with the lines. Due to lack of time I skipped the lineart stage and instead I cleaned and defined as much as possible my sketch.

Comencé realizando el boceto de mi personaje, como nunca había dibujado un cocodrilo tuve algunas dificultades para la anatomía por lo que mi boceto estuvo realmente muy sucio durante todo este proceso, tuve que utilizar colores adicionales para separar la ropa y los accesorios para no perderme con las líneas. Por falta de tiempo me salte la etapa de lineart y en su lugar limpie y definí lo mas posible mi boceto.

From this point I started with the practice that I wanted to carry out in this illustration, this is a very well known technique that consists of applying color through the grayscale. As I had never done it before, I gave it a try taking advantage of the occasion. First I made a gray base layer and on top of it I added several levels of shadows with a soft brush.

Desde este punto comencé con la practica que quería llevar a cabo en esta ilustración, esta se trata de una técnica muy conocida que consiste en aplicar el color por medio de la escala de grises. Como nunca lo había hecho le di una oportunidad aprovechando la ocasión. Primero realice una capa base color gris y encima de ella fui agregando varios niveles de sombras con un pincel suave.

I kept applying layers of shadows, but to be honest I wasn't liking the result. I'm still very novice when it comes to the Soft Shading technique and not to keep adding layer after layer of shadows I decided to leave my character this way. On top of that I started to add the colors that the character would finally have.

Seguí aplicando niveles de sombras, pero si les soy sincero no me estaba gustando el resultado. Aun soy muy novato en cuando a la técnica del Soft Shading y para no seguir agregando capa tras capa de sombra opte por dejar a mi personaje de esta manera. Por encima comencé a agregar los colores que tendría finalmente el personaje.

To give more intensity to the colors I added some additional layers on top and started to play a little with the effects of the layer blending modes. Convinced with the colors I went on to elaborate a background for the illustration, placing a parallel shadow on the character and making a volume effect with a textured brush.

Para dar mayor intensidad a los colores fui agregando algunas capas adicionales por encima y comencé a jugar un poco con los efectos de los modos de fusión de capa. Convencido con los colores pase a elaborar un fondo para la ilustración, colocando una sombra paralela en el personaje y realizando un efecto de volumen con un pincel texturizado.
