Splinterlands - To Bot Or Not To Bot

avatar

This post is more of a rant than anything useful and it has to do with bots being using in playing Splinterlands. Over the years bots have evolved and developed to play much better and Splinterlands as a whole have been accepting this with open arms. Yet there were some points in time where it was clear bots were taking advantage of the rewards system and the developers were putting up counter measures.

I am at a point in my life where its difficult to put in 25 battles a day consistently while doing daily posts and above all having a personal life. There were certain parts of the past three years I have been playing Splinterlands where certain times I went with using a bot. The advantage was I went on earning a steady income without having to always be playing. Of course that came with some drawbacks but the bottom line was if I went without playing it meant I was not earning at my max potential.

As the bots became better tuned in play mode it has become apparent to me that I maybe better off running my account through a bot than playing on my own. I have encounter matches where seemingly I should win when my opponent had used a level 1 summoner but I came out on the short end. Although this may not be because I was facing a bot but some battle formations being similar or identical in several rounds of play I can only ponder the fact that either same group of players where playing or a bot.

Through recent weeks I have heard a lot more news regarding the dislike of bots from not only players but even some developers. There have been more plans to curb the bot activities or at least slow down their activities.

So I have a fine line to cut here. I either start having a more balanced life by letting a bot to play my account, let someone else play my account, or simply not play at all and rent out all my cards. The second option is likely my least favorite as I do not have a full gold league deck to accommodate top players and I don't want to have to split a 50/50 in earnings. The first choice is something I have thought about since it worked fine in the past even though temporary. I think for now I will take a deeper dive into the options but I am truly leaning toward the use of bots since they perform better and less in cost than paying out a player.

Until next time thanks for reading!!!

This is the one of the major reasons i’m bowing out gracefully from the game. It has been a fun ride but it seems like it’s a bot only game now sadly.

Oh I am sorry to hear you say this. Maybe at the very least you rent out your cards and hold on to assets in wait and see mode. I may not be playing a ton but it doesn’t mean I am leaving the game. Not one bit. Instead been watching game updates and people discussing proposals. There is just too much for me to balance both playing the game and keeping up to date with updates. !PIZZA

Bots are the biggest problem Splinterlands has. Since they scare off all the new players even before buying a spellbook.
When you are new to a game it is completely normal to make mistakes like putting a ranged monster in the first position. If you are facing opponents that are as new to the game as you, you would still win about 50% of your matches. But with bots that fight especially in the lower leagues the first opponents newcomers face are bots that play on a level that even an experienced player would struggle winning against.
Without new players the game will inevitably die since few people are willing to invest lots of money into a game that they have just found on the internet.

I grew up on TCGs like Pokemon and YuGiOh transitioning to MTG as I got older. Now that I have a family and work obligations those are games that I do not have time to play.

The beauty of splinterlands is that you can play 2 minutes here and 2 minutes there. I can play it on the train, while I am making coffee or even when I am on the john. Even when I am slammed at work finding 2 minutes to do a battle is stress relief more than an additional obligation.

I think that using time restrictions as an excuse to use a bot are just that, an excuse. People use bots because they think they can do better than they can themselves. It seems most of the top content creators now talking about bowing out of ranked and only utilising their bot to do it for them. I heard on the peoples guild podcast that whenever they turn off their bot they just lose over and over so just keep the bot on for ranked and just play tournaments.

I personally love then game and will continue to grind through ranked for that pure love of the game.

I will not however invest anymore money into the game which is so so hard as I so want to FOMO hard into these prices.

The influencers just make it seem like if you don't have a bot you don't have a chance so the message is why bother at all. At least that's how I perceive it

If people/influencers put the earning at their 1st priority instead of play, they will use bot.
But I like playing the game by myself. It's time to relax and train my brain. I feel happy when winning the game with the limited powerful cards.
Let put the earning after the enjoyment while playing Splinterlands, we will feel so much better :)

Another aspect of using the bots is learning how they play and knowing their flaws. But you hit the nail on the head. I am aiming for profit since that has the driving for of Splinterlands. They want to make an entertaining game that creates value. !PIZZA

Ever since splinterlands took on the approach that the game requires people to spend in order to get a full experience has turn the game more of a chore than entertainment. I am able to still put in 2 min a day here and there but unable to keep up with the game. There are a lot of days my Energy is at 100%. Then there are the updates in the weekly town halls and third party sites. The game itself in order to turn a profit now really takes a lot of time and effort. Bottom line I have to decide how to spend my limited time to profit the most in the game. Right now me playing the game daily isn’t as profitable as other aspects of the game such as partaking in liquidity pools or posting daily of what I find interesting related to the game. Its how I distribute my time between all the things we can do in and out of Splinterlands. !PIZZA

The main reason for using Bot is that they can save tons of time. And more time is equal to more money to some extent.

If everything continues like this, this game will also be like axie infinity. For example, in the beginning, people were playing with new bots, because of which people have lost their trust in this game. If the team of this game doesn't pay attention then people's trust will end with this game too. The team should come up with some kind of verification or add something else to prevent them from playing the course. People ruin such projects in the rush to get rich quick. The team should do something about it as soon as possible.

personally i like to rent cards not to play:D
so for me its easy, but if no bots there then there will only small amount of renting by humans.
But overall if you dont have time and want some earning just go rent :D

I think it's really tough and I don't use a bot for fighting ranked battles. I do think it's justified to use a bot for rental card prices because that is really tedious. However, I do think the bots are an issue and at some point, they will just continue to make more accounts to earn more from the rewards pool. Maybe putting in some safeguards in regard to the cooldown time for cards might be a better choice.

I don’t use bots, takes out the fun for me, but if it weren’t for the sake of playing for fun I’ll totally be using bots, infact I’m not using bots rn because I’m not sure if or when I’ll get the return of investment in the bot back.
