Crypt Beetle Weekly Battle Challenge | Splinterlands #167
This week’s battle challenge focuses on the Crypt Beetle.
A Chaos Legion common level monster from the Death Splinter at level 1:
- Estimated cost: $0.078
- Melee attack: 1
- Speed: 1
- Armor: 1
- Health: 2
- Shield ability: Reduced damage from Melee and Ranged attacks.
The weekly battles continue to focus on the new Chaos Legion cards, and this week it focuses on the Crypt Beetle. The armor plating on the Crypt Beetle allows this creature to survive battles while it plots how it will wreck damage to its opponent. The Crypt Beetle is a low mana-cap monster that can be a helpful addition to your collection due to having armor, Shield ability (an absolute must for tanks), and melee damage. It can function as a support tank in low mana-cap battles or in battles where it can protect the backline. I don't have enough Crypto Beetle to feature it in battle, and therefore I will be featuring another low mana-cap monster with armor, the Skeletal Warrior.
Battle - Full Battle Replay
- Mana cap: 25
- Rulesets(s): Equal Opportunity, Up Close & Personal
- Zintar Mortalis: -1 melee damage to all opposition monsters.
- Haunted Spirit: primary melee tank due to Heal ability.
- Skeletal Warrior: support melee tank due to two armor.
- Sand Worm: primary DPS glass cannon due to high melee damage.
- Cocatrice + Skeleton Assassin: support melee damage.
- Creeping Ooze: apply speed debuff to opposition monsters.
Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?
The two primary reasons for clinching victory in this battle were the combination of Zintar + Haunted Spirit and heavy-hitting by the Sand Worm. Firstly, the -1 melee debuff on opposition monsters by Zintar proved critical as my opponent's Flesh Golem wasn't able to hit for max damage, which would've turned the battle in his favor. Secondly, the six damage hits by Sand Worm were chunky and could obliterate the opposition's backline before it perished. The Skeletal Warrior showcased why armor is so important to add to its survivability. It survived the battle and contributed to the battle by landing a few critical blows on Flesh Golem.
Do you like the Crypt Beetle? Why or why not?
These Chaos Legion common monsters prove to be handy additions to the splinterlands ecosystem. The Crypt Beetle is currently the only low mana-cap (less than four) monster with the Shield ability at level one when looking around for alternatives. The Skeletal Warrior acquires the Shield ability at level five, but that will set you back $21, which you can instead spend on Crypt Beetle. A card I will be looking to acquire and upgrade soon!
