A Chaos Legion edition rare level monster from the Neutral unit at level 3:

  • Estimated cost: $4.120
  • Magic attack: 1
  • Speed: 2
  • Health: 4
  • Dispel ability: When this monster hits an enemy, it clears all positive status effects on that enemy.

Dark Mages in the RPG tropes are plentiful and abound. Traditionally, their roles are to dispell buffs against enemies from the back as they can be taken down quite easily due to their historically low health. The Venari Spellsmith slots into this Dark Mage category quite well. Relatively low mana cost, equal health to its mana cost, low speed, and magic damage, but where it adds value is in its Dispel ability, removing any positive buffs that the opposition has. Also, due to it being from the Neutral unit, it can be used by any other team, attributing to its cost. But as I have said before, the item's price usually dictates the usefulness of the card.

This battle couldn't have gone better. The primary strategy was to frontload the lineup with two DPS melee tanks with lots of health and armor to handle the barrage of enemy attacks and deal with the Earthquake ruleset damage while the backline chips away at the opposition. Initially, when I saw my opposition lineup, I was worried - 12 magic damage and the Grund in position one. However, the strategy I employed worked a treat and allowed the support monsters to feature a lot. Venari Spellsmith survived the battle and even managed to contribute by landing a couple of key blows and even landing the final killing blow.

Do you like the Venari Spellsmith? Why or why not?

Magic damage will always be critical regardless of the level or league you play. Also, having a variety of monsters from different units not only adds to the variety but also helps you change things up with different strategies and approaches when battling. The Venari Spellsmith stats at lower levels is nothing fantastic, but it can prove helpful in battles when other monsters support it, and the rulesets work in its favor.
