The core of the Counterspell ruleset revolves around the Magic Reflect ability, which all units possess at the start of a battle. This ability ensures that any magical attacks launched by enemy monsters face retaliation causing damage to the attacker to half of the damage dealt (rounded up). The obvious approach is to be cautious when using magic monsters unless they possess the Void ability. For example, monsters like Djinn Oshannus, who has the Void ability, high magic damage, and high health is the perfect monster to play in Counterspell ruleset battles. Another key strategy is to pick a summoner like Immortalis that can grant the Void ability to all friendly monsters will really help in building that resilience against magic attacks. Pairing Immortalis with Flesh Golem is a duo that is made to destroy all the magicians in the praetorian!

For this battle, I defaulted to utilising my favorite card -- Lord Arianthus to lead the team as the main passive tank. The backline was purely focused on range and melee damage with Screeching Vulture and Spirit of the Forest being the main source of damage. What became apparent very quickly was that the opposition was doing more damage than me and was picking off my monsters one by one. However, in this battle Earthquake and Fatigue proved to be the deciding factor and luckily for me, even though Spirit of the Forest landed up in position 1 and was unable to attack -- every round it healed was being procced and healing more than the damage it was receiving from Earthquake and battlefield damage. I feel really bad portraying this battle as my opponent had a much better strategy, but the RNG gods were in my favor, and I clinched victory through sheer dumb luck.

Do You Like the Counterspell Ruleset? Why or Why Not?

Personally, I absolutely enjoy the challenge that comes with engaging in battles involving Counterspell ruleset battles. We all know that as you climb the ranks/ratings/leagues (still learning the new league structure), magic monsters tend to dominate the battlefield. Therefore, having a ruleset that provides all monsters with the Magic Reflect ability levels the playing field. I tend to stick to playing with monsters like Lord Arianthus and Baakjira as they both have the Void ability in the Counterspell ruleset battles and even though they are no attack monsters, they have enough health to survive most battles. What other strategies do you employ when battling against the Magic Reflect ability?
