How to expand SPS use case & card Giveaway

A quick announcement before I get into the main topic. I will be splitting the SBI and card giveaways into two different posts, I haven't decided on a specific day for the SBI post but it should be on Sunday from now on.

SPS Supply and Demand

SPS has been on a slippery slope over the past 3 months which is only natural since there is a high daily print from the airdrop + the staking + Private investors vesting.
On top of the expanding supply, there is a shrinking demand, there was a big incentive to stake and buy SPS during the Chaos Legion pre-sale to obtain more vouchers and the 10% discount when buying packs.

Now the only remaining incentive to buy and hold SPS is to receive some vouchers to get the extra packs when buying 100 CL packs or more.

There are a lot of loyal players holding SPS in hopes of a better use case in the future which will most likely be introduced when the land expansion comes around.

Quick fix

I would love to see some quick fixes being implemented to help SPS value hold its value while the land expansion is in the works.

I have two suggestions that could be interesting:

  • Launch new skins that can only be bought using SPS and burn all the SPS. There are a lot of new cards that don't have any skins available yet it would be interesting to see some new card designs around the arena.
    Maybe even give an incentive to use skins like 5% extra DEC per win if you use at least 1 skin.

  • Include an SPS paying option for potions and burn it.

SPS utility is absolutely one of the biggest lacking factors of the game. I completely agree. I think the devs thought that requiring SPS for Tournaments would ultimately be enough to keep its value high but unfortunately, tournaments in themselves just don't have that big of a draw to newer players. Simply put they are almost impossible to win without having many of the stronger UT cards which are an expensive buy in themselves.

I have a few other potential ideas related to SPS:

  1. Implement the SPS governance function as planned. Require burning of the tokens to submit a proposal with the weight of the burn automatically counting towards in favor.

  2. Tie ECR recharge to staked SPS. Currently we recharge 25% per hour. This would definitely require number crunching by the team's economics group but perhaps lowering the base ECR rate to 15%/hr and then providing a boost of 1%/hr per X staked SPS up to a max of 25%/hr.

  3. Update the battle background/board to allow skins as well. The background can be split 50/50 and show the skins of each player. Further cosmetic NFTs can be added as needed to show off during battles. (Like bobbleheads that are on the side of the board etc)

  4. Allow SPS to be burned at SPS/DEC market rate to upgrade guild buildings as if they were DEC.

  5. Update market fee structure (5% of price paid by seller) to be paid in SPS. Further that SPS could be burned instead.

  6. I second the idea of card skins being purchasable with SPS. I think for each expansion skins could have a 50/50 release paid in dec and sps. These and all other skins need to be tradable.

  7. Create additional holdable titles that are related to or at least purchasable with SPS.

  8. Provide a slight DEC boost per win to accounts with X SPS staked.

Doesn't Splinterlands have a buy credits with SPS option or is that yet to be implemented. In a way, it might allow you to buy those potions using credits by doing so.

I want the card this week because I don't know what it is. So it might be one of the chaos legion cards that I still need to learn.

Unfortunately Nate gave a pretty compelling argument for not adding any new skins in the near future during the last town hall.

You can buy potions with SPS if you make a side trip through credits, but I think that's all going to the DAO, not burned. I don't think they're willing to burn any SPS until we're able to vote on it.

Personally I see ranked rewards canceling out any increases in SPS price until RW arrives, but I hope I'm wrong.

As one of those gamers who spent a lot on cosmetics, I do wish I could buy skins with my SPS! Apart from that, I'm mostly holding and restaking for the mean time...

Burn, Burn, burn, burn, Once private investor and air drop stop and of course governance kicks in I suspect pretty much everything you can buy with DEC you will be able to buy with SPS My suggestion.... Same as it ever was If you believe in the Game. Buy/Hodl If ya don't go buy some TESLA calls. Sure their are plenty of implementations The entire peanut gallery can come up with That might give a pop in SPS price short term but long term (1-3 years) You have to actually have your ducks in a row and slower is better than snap bang. Patience is a virtue, and lacking in this bull "stonks only go up" period in overall investing no matter what the vehicle is that you find your money in. This to me is fucking terrifying. But I'm just a old wanna be boomer GenX east coast hardcore married white man WTF could I possibly know l0lZ. NFA DYOR like always. Trying to teach my 3 year old patience right now... I think my 3 year old is doing better at it than most "investors" today. Hard head makes a soft ass everytime though.... Good luck out there yall.
