Splinterlands Art Contest Week 208 | MISCHIEVOUS MERMAID FAN ART [ENG-ESP]

For a long time I was hoping to share my first entry to the @splinterlans art contest, but between so many occupations and personal projects that I was carrying out, I didn't have time to organize myself and make space for the contest, but here I am and I feel very excited that this is my first participation, there are many artists who do really great things and every time I read their posts I feel inspired.

The card I decided to take as inspiration for this fanart was MISCHIEVOUS MERMAID, what motivated me to draw this character is that she transmits me a lot of power and femininity, besides, I felt that I could represent her very well with the aesthetics that I'm having lately in my drawings.

Process:

Naturally I wanted this mermaid's demeanor to convey power and energy and although she was very beautiful, I also wanted the expression on her face to be intimidating. One of the crucial aspects in my drawings is the outlining, I like to take my time for this step and the truth is that this time I took too long because I couldn't draw the hands as I wanted.

As soon as I finished with the outline, I thought that the best thing to do would be to finish drawing the tail, I didn't see much sense in drawing only half of her body being a mermaid, so that's what I did.

For the colors I chose almost the same tones of the original character, you will see in one corner of the images the reference of the character to have an idea of where to place the shadows and other details. I really enjoyed the whole process, I liked adding little details like freckles on her skin, some shades on her tail and glitters on some areas of her body.

For the background again I decided to use the same shade of blue as the original card, as I found it contrasted nicely with the colors of the mermaid. I kept the background simple, used some tools like the airbrush and finger brush to add some texture and finished by adding glitter with the airbrush.

Desde hace mucho tiempo esperaba compartir mi primera entrada al concurso de arte de @splinterlans, pero entre tantas ocupaciones y proyectos personales que estaba llevando a cabo, no tuve tiempo de organizarme y hacerle espacio al concurso, pero acá estoy y me siento muy emocionada de que esta sea mi primera participación, hay muchos artistas que hacen cosas realmente geniales y cada vez que leo sus post me siento inspirada.

La carta que decidí tomar como inspiración para este fanart fue la de MISCHIEVOUS MERMAID, lo que me motivó dibujar este personaje es que me transmite mucho poder y feminidad, además, sentía que podía representarla muy bien con la estética que últimamente estoy teniendo en mis dibujos.

Proceso:

Naturalmente quería que el porte de esta sirena transmitiera poder y energía y aunque fuese muy hermosa, también buscaba que la expresión en su rostro intimidara. Uno de los aspectos cruciales en mis dibujos es el delineado, me gusta tomarme mi tiempo para este paso y lo cierto es que en esta ocasión me demoré de más porque las manos no lograba dibujarlas como quería.

En cuanto terminé con el delineado, pensé que lo mejor sería terminar de dibujarle la cola, no veía mucho sentido en dibujar solo la mitad de su cuerpo siendo una sirena, así que fue lo que hice.

Para los colores escogí casi los mismos tonos del personaje original, verán en una esquina de las imágenes la referencia del personaje para tener una idea de dónde posicionar las sombras y otros detalles. Disfruté mucho todo el proceso, me gustó añadir pequeños detalles como pecas en su piel, algunos matices en su cola y brillos en algunas zonas de su cuerpo.

Para el fondo nuevamente decidí usar el mismo tono de azul de la carta original, pues me di cuenta que contrastaba muy bien con los colores de la sirena. Mantuve el fondo simple, usé algunas herramientas como el aerógrafo y el pincel de dedo para añadir un poco de textura y finalicé añadiendo brillos con el aerógrafo.

Ese fue el resultado final y espero que les guste tanto como a mí. Espero ver las entradas del resto de los participantes, nos vemos en una próxima ocasión!
