On September 19th, 2022 in Splinterlands Town Hall Aggroed CEO of Splinterlands talked with Chatter (Head of Marketing) about AR Gaming and Splinterlands creativity to enter this part of gaming. In this post I will try to take a look at AR Gaming and how it could make benefit the company.

Introduction

Augmented reality gaming (AR gaming) is the integration of game visual and audio content with the user's environment in real time. Unlike virtual reality gaming, which often requires a separate room or confined area to create an immersive environment, augmented reality gaming uses the existing environment and creates a playing field within it. While virtual reality games require specialized VR headsets, only some augmented reality systems use them. AR games are typically played on devices like smartphones, tablets and portable gaming systems. In other words augmented reality gaming (AR gaming) is the combination of game visual and audio with the user’s environment in real time and space.
On the other hand, AR adds to reality, projecting information on top of what the user already sees.

Pokemon Example Of Using AR

Pokémon GO, considered the breakthrough AR app for gaming, uses a smartphone’s camera, gyroscope, clock and GPS and to enable a location-based augmented reality environment. A map of the current environment displays on the screen and a rustle of grass indicates the presence of a Pokémon; a tap of the touchscreen brings up the capture display. In AR mode, the screen displays Pokémon in the user’s real-world environment.

Splinterlands AR Usecase

Unlike Pokémon, Splinterlands is not using real-life experiences brought by 3D graphics however AR in Slinterlands adds to reality, projecting information on top of what the user already reads and makes the game more appealing. According to what Chatter (Head of Marketing) explained by creating Runi (Generative Art or unique artwork card to know more about Generative Art read this Link ) they are doing new marketing. AR is going to connect physical Lore Story to Digital Splinterlands space.

So, On the back of Runi there is a Lore story in which a protagonist (Your Runi Unique Character) ends to be trapped in a dungeon then Splinterlands would ask users in discord channel to make a scape scenario. This would happen after Splinterfest (Middle of October) and Splinterlands Bots will ask users some riddles and users make new scenarios. Also, CryptoMonk will help Splinterlands in this new marketing and it connects Splinterlands to many Discord Channels who are listening to the game updates.

Conclusion & Citation

Augmented reality gaming (AR gaming) is the integration of game visual and audio content and Splinterlands by adding unfinished Lore behind each Runi and asking users to create new Scenarios makes the game more appealling.
