My Purchase of #69 Doctor Blight Splinterlands NFT

avatar

I have never purchased an NFT until now. Yes, I know what you're thinking, "Splinterlands cards are NFTs", well I don't look at them the same way. Splinterlands cards have utility and can be used to play the game, whereas I think of NFTs as being the same as artwork that hangs on a wall, it has no function except being nice to look at. So, I took the plunge and purchased the Splinterlands NFT of Doctor Blight.

I managed to make my own GIF of the animated Doctor Blight video NFT too:

Doctor Blight is all the rage right now as this will be the special promo card for those that purchase pre-sale Chaos Legion packs! Just check out a post from @rosiew today that has a great analysis of the power this card may have on future gameplay and its inherent monetary value. The numbers are simply staggering!

Just take a look at the proposed stats for this special card:

Doctor Blight NFT

Let's get back to the NFT. So this was my first NFT purchase and there are actually still some of these originals available in the Splintertalk NFT store. The Doctor Blight NFT is limited to 100 editions and I managed to scoop up #69. I figured if I'm going to get a limited edition NFT where there are 100 of them in circulation, I wanted a catchy number and since #1 was already taken, 69 was the next best thing.

This NFT set me back 17,000 SPT. I look at it as just converting some of my Splintertalk writing rewards into a piece of artwork. As I wrote in my October Earnings Recap, I earned a little over $400 writing and curating Splinterlands content on Splintertalk last month. So, this Doctor Blight NFT is about 10 days "work." But I have a feeling this will be one of the more in-demand NFTs, especially once the actual Doctor Blight card is released. I'm hoping that the re-sale market could be quite lucrative in another 3-6 months.

Right now, there are still 9 more original Doctor Blight NFTs for sale from Splinterlands. So, if you want to be an original owner of this pretty cool NFT, you just need to fork over the 17,000 SPT here and it's all yours. Or if you're feeling a bit more adventurous, @chronocrypto / @chrono.spt is offering the #1 Edition of this NFT for a cool 1,175,000 SPT!

Chrono hypothesizes that there may be some future use for these limited edition NFTs. I haven't heard anything official about a use-case for the NFTs, but that would be absolutely awesome if they were somehow useable in the upcoming land expansion!

Splintertalk NFT Store

There may be a lot of you that aren't even aware that Splintertalk has an NFT store, but you can go check it out for yourself here or click the "NFTs" link at the top of any Splintertalk.io page. There is another featured NFT being offered up as of 5 days ago too, the Herald of Chaos:

These new NFT drops are released slowly by Splinterlands, so you need to check back often on the NFT page to see if more editions have been released. Herald of Chaos is also limited to 100 and currently only 25 have been released for purchase.

What are your thoughts on the Doctor Blight promo card, or even a potential future use-case for the NFTs?

This post was downvoted because I feel @ecency is not allowing me to use my points which creates a double standard when I have to look at your promoted post, but do not have the same treatment myself when I try to redeem points.

Why does that have anything to do with me? You’re penalizing my post for something unrelated to my content because you’re upset with a service I don’t run? Please remove your downvote and direct it to the those responsible.

NO it will be staying until the double standard is adjusted. There will be more downvotes too in the case you have been allowed to enjoy @ecency points while the double standard is held over my head.

Get over yourself, you’re directing your anger at someone who has nothing to do with your problem. You don’t seem to be downvoting any other sponsored @Ecency posts in the feed, just mine.

You aren't the only person to have their ecency points refunded. Look:

There are very valid reasons for points to be refunded! There are certain types of content that can't be promoted on @ecency- maybe your posts fall into those categories? The actifit post in my screenshot for example cant be promoted or boosted.

They are only another account after all so upvote mana and resource credits are a factor- if they can't boost your content to the value you requested with @ecency points- you get a refund instead. I think that also applies when you try to promote a post for longer than the remaining payout window.

I don't claim to know all the rules around using ecency points for promotion and boosting but as you can see from my screenshot you are not the only person to receive a refund!

All of my posts that I try to promote are investigative journalism into current events. I include opinion in ever piece to make sure it is authentic original content.

I recently did a deep dive about a major Canadian Civil lawsuit which was refunded.... while I watched splinterlands bullshit flood the promoted posts feed

Like I said- I don't claim to know the details of why you get refunded- maybe your posts don't meet a set of criteria for promotion we don't know about? As shown in my screenshots other folks get refunded sometimes too.
