I am not proud of this performance, but well, transparency goes both ways!

Join Tournaments on the First Day of the Season

Tip:
To minimize your cost of entry in tournaments, join as many as possible before going up in leagues!

During the first day of the season, I claimed my 13 daily SPS or so (Airdrop + Staking) and decided that this would be my Tournament Budget for the coming season.

Starting back in Silver, my cost of entry for Bronze and Silver Tournaments was priced at 2 SPS.

However, knowing that as soon as I would reach Gold again, those fees would skyrocket, I chose to join as many Tournaments as I could with this little budget.

13 SPS allowed me to join 5 different Tournaments, two at a Silver level and three others at a Bronze level, of which one was a Gold Foil only.

A Little Experiment that almost didn’t turn out well

This little experiment almost cost me two SPS because of my bad performance. I wasn’t willing to rent more cards, so I went with my limited deck to see what would happen.

I did choose Tournaments in which the number of participants was most likely not to exceed the last prized place, which was 256th.

Nevertheless, with a few more days to go, some of the Tournaments managed to attract more than this threshold of 256 players, which wasn’t good news to me.

In one Tournament, named Archipelago Bronze Modern Invitational, I even ended at the 252nd place, only four places above the fatal threshold.

In the Gold Foil only, I joined just because there were a total of 160 participants. The 256th to 129th would get their 5 SPS back, while the 128th to 68th could potentially double this amount to 10 SPS.

I finished 131st, 3 places away from doubling my money. The fun fact is that the single win I got in this Tournament turned out to be because someone forgot about entering his or her team! That is to say how bad I was all along!

Aftermath

I am not sure I’ll participate in those Tournaments anytime soon, unless there are fewer participants than prizes, because my deck (and my skills) just don’t allow me to compete well enough.

Nonetheless, there are for sure opportunities to look for even when we don’t fare well, cf. the Gold Foils Tourneys for instance. I might keep an eye on these and you might want to do the same as well.

In the end, I even turned out a profit of 2 SPS thanks to a slightly different distribution of the prizes when compared to what was in the description. Getting 2 SPS for not a single win wasn’t too bad for sure!

I hope those information will be helpful in some ways!

Cheers!

I have been terribly beaten in the tournament too.
The most powerful card in the game should appear on the board in those tournaments.
A battle there is not a joke. I personally got to the round 3 by chance two weeks ago.
Peace
