We are back for this week's Social Media Challenge! This time we will be discussing about land and specifically some aspects that aren't laid out in detail yet from the whitepaper.

Land has been a hot topic ever since the whitepaper got released. Last time, we covered how much you'd need to spend to ideally get your land plot up and running. You can read more here for reference.

We've been looking into it further and while the info is comprehensive, there isn't much in terms of how to best go about how your land plot comes into play as a bigger whole with regards to your neighboring plots/tracts/regions. Community will play an even bigger role here and there are some great advantages if you are able to coordinate with fellow players to see what sort of efficiencies there are out there and how to potentially maximize gains or earnings. Let's look at some of the examples below and see what we can uncover.

Castles and Keeps

Current available areas to claim as of this writing.

Castles and Keeps are the ancient structures that can be found hidden deep within the lands of Praetoria. These are rare and valuable structures that land owners have a chance of unlocking during the surveying process so may the odds every be in your favor and don't forget to #praytoearn!

The whitepaper states that:

Each Tract of land (100 contiguous plots) will contain exactly one plot with either a Castle or Keep on it, and there is only one Castle in each Region (1000 contiguous plots). This means that, with each Region, there will be exactly 9 Keeps and 1 Castle.

As you can see, they are very rare indeed and players who have 1 or relatively few plots of land will have to count towards RNG to see if they get lucky. Region owners are exempt from RNG because they own the whole area so they are guaranteed the whole 9 Keeps and 1 Castle.

Taxes

As with the scarcity of the Castles and Keeps, there are taxes that can be imposed if you own any of them.

The whitepaper states:

In phase 1.5, a 10% tax will be collected on all resource production (Grain, SPS, and Research) by the local Castles & Keeps. The taxes go towards paying for the infrastructure and shared services provided by the Castles & Keeps in each region. The owners of the Castles & Keeps will have the opportunity to capture a portion of these taxes, and the rest will be burned.

In phase 2, it is planned that players within each region will have the opportunity to contribute resources to upgrade sub-buildings in their local Castles & Keeps which will allow them to reduce the overall tax rate and/or earn some of the income themselves.

Taxes are going to be part of the land ecosystem and it'll be in everybody's interest to make sure that sub-buildings in their respective areas are upgraded as fast as possible to reduce overall tax rate.

Where Community Comes In

TeamPH is interested to help the Filipino Community members who own land as well as those who don't own any yet. If we're able to settle into an area where we maximize having the Filipino owners together, it'll be so much easier to support each other with upgrading the sub-buildings later on so that everybody can benefit from reduced taxes. For example, if we have a member who owns a keep or castle, it'll be easier to coordinate with what sub-building to upgrade first so that plot owners get reduced taxes while keep or castle owners earn some of that income as well.

Since info isn't very specific on how this will play out, we are currently in the process of figuring out which Filipino players own land to see if they are interested in this initiative to rally together for the common interest of everyone. TeamPH has at least a region and a tract and the tract alone guarantees 1 keep that everyone can get behind and expanding plans are in the works depending on how many community members are interested.

At the end of this all, we want to be able to give back to the community and support all the Filipino Splinterlands players to maximize benefits and thrive together. There will be some more brainstorming to follow and once we have some more ideas, we'll share them to everyone so be on the lookout!
