This could sound like one of the stupider things someone has said but Steemmonsters played a big role in saving my life.

As stated here, hereand here I was undergoing a major change in my life and depression and anxiety caused by 16 years of abuse and manipulation and the recent separation from my children had taken a toll on my mental health.

It had been about 2 weeks of living in my car. I had been going to work every day to keep my mind occupied but after a few near misses I was injured somewhat severely and management forced me to stop coming in on my free days.

Now that I had free time my mind was no longer occupied. The situation I was in became very clear and the loneliness and depression came rushing back. I was talking to a close friend about my situation and she suggested that I occupy my time playing @Splinterlands. As always she is wise beyond my comprehension and knew exactly what I needed.

My first season rewards was very good. I received a Peakrider and several other summoners. My quest rewards were also very good. One of the first cards I received was a gold foil Elven Cutthroat. From that point I was hooked. It’s been 6 months and I’ve turned $120 of investment into a $427 account (as of this morning) and have 3 accounts. A 355% increase in capital is not bad at all!

Mis recompensas de la primera temporada fueron muy buenas. Recibí un Peakrider y varios otros invocadores. Las recompensas de mi búsqueda también fueron muy buenas. Una de las primeras cartas que recibí fue una lámina de oro de Elven Cutthroat. Desde ese momento me enganché. Nowadays I am more focused on my work than the game but nonetheless it is nice to know that I hold some actual equity in a game. This is clearly an advantage over my Xbox and PC/Mac games of which have nearly no resale value and I have spent a small fortune on. Growing up my foster parents limited my screen time and told me things like “video games will rot your mind.” Well, this time they provided the distraction I needed to allow myself to heal. Splinterlands was not the main factor in my rebirth. It was the solid support network of good friends that truly kept me going and that is what is most important. Nobody can suffer in solitude and come out of it okay. For those moments when I had to be alone, Steemmonsters was my distraction. Your results may vary.

Hoy en día estoy más enfocado en mi trabajo que en el juego, pero sin embargo es bueno saber que tengo algo de equidad real en un juego. Esto es claramente una ventaja sobre mis juegos para Xbox y PC/Mac, de los cuales casi no tienen valor de reventa y en los que me he gastado una pequeña fortuna. Cuando era niño mis padres adoptivos limitaban mi tiempo de pantalla y me decían cosas como "los videojuegos te pudrirán la mente". Fue la sólida red de apoyo de buenos amigos lo que realmente me mantuvo en marcha y eso es lo más importante. Nadie puede sufrir en soledad y salir bien de ella. En aquellos momentos en que tenía que estar solo, Steemmonsters era mi distracción. Sus resultados pueden variar.
