Welcome to my 17th #BrawlReport as part of the @hive.pizza PIZZA 2 The Deep Dish guild!

Once again I'm holding down Fray #3, the Untamed novice fray which has all level 1 monster limits.

guild.jpg

Congratulations to @chefbgob for taking 1st place with 7 wins and 1 loss! I tied for second this time with 5 wins and 2 losses as did @ruralio. More than half of our guild had more wins than losses so this was a very successful brawl!

PIZZA 2 The Deep Dish Results

all.jpg

We finished in a solid 3rd place in this brawl with a total of 37 wins and 25 losses for 111 points. This is one place higher than we finished in the last brawl. For our efforts, we each received 508 merits (1/4 of what's needed for a gladius case) and the guild earned 11 crowns.

My Battles

mybattles.jpg

Battle 1 - Loss

Reverse Speed: Monsters with the lowest speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.

I did not pay close enough attention to the Reverse Speed ruleset for this battle and it came back to bite me in the ass. My opponent was able to get all his attacks in before three of my own cards. For some reason I chose a speed 6 Gladiator for this battle and he kept missing attacks due to the speed differential and generally being ineffective due to going last.

I went down quickly in this battle and it was completely avoidable.

Battle 2 - Win

Even Stevens: Only monsters with even mana costs may be used in battles.
Spreading Fury: All monsters have the Enrage ability.

I really wish we had the ability to practice with the gladiator cards outside of live battles, so I decided to experiment in this battle with my Chimney Wallstop card. However, I was concerned because I was only putting up two cards and figured I might get taken out because of it.

The strategy here was to have my tank, Magnor, absorb all the hits and allow Chimney Wallstop to hit hard with the blast ability from the summoner and increase his stats from the bloodlust abilty.

My strategy ended up working even better than expected as Magnor ended up doing a lot of extra damage with the blast ability too. This battle was over quickly with my two cards destroying my opponent.

Battle 3 - Loss

Silenced Summoners: Summoners do not give any stat buffs or debuffs or grant/use any abilities.
Odd Ones Out: Only monsters with odd mana costs may be used in battles.

This is a tricky ruleset that goes against the strategy I employ for these brawls, which is renting very powerful summoners like Llama and Yodin in order to overwhelm my opponents.

I thought I had a decent lineup, but my opponent edged me out here by getting the first hit and taking out the middle of my deck before I could hit them. This was a disappointing loss and I got taken out much quicker than I would have expected with my lineup.

Battle 4 - Win

Lost Legendaries: Legendary Monsters may not be used in battles.

Here's another ruleset that heavily restricts the cards I can deploy. Thankfully, I was still able to use a high-powered summoner like Yodin to give all my monsters the blast ability.

I rolled out the Chimney Wallstop gladiator card for this battle again and really like the effect it has with blast ability. The 5 melee attack that it deals to the first monster, combined with the 3 melee attack on the second monster is incredibly powerful and likely very difficult to overcome by any opponent. As expected, I made quick work of this battle.

Chimney Wallstop is going to be a major force in brawls when combined with the blast ability.

Battle 5 - Win

Equal Opportunity: All monsters have the opportunity ability.
Melee Mayhem: Melee attack monsters can attack from any position.

With the ruleset allow earth splinter monsters and a mana of 20, the Llama/Kron combo seemed ideal here. My opponent didn't have any special monsters in their lineup and used a +1 shield summoner that supplied no defense to a magic attack. This battle was over before it even began.

Battle 6 - Win

Equalizer: The initial health of all monsters is equal to that of the monsters on either team with the highest base health.
Taking Sides: Neutral monsters may not be used in battles.

This is the third battle in this brawl that I decided to use Chimney Wallstop. For the second time it was only paired with one other card and I relied on its extreme power, combined with the blast ability, to overcome my opponent.

My tank successfully neutralized any 1 melee or range attacks and gave Chimney Wallstop a chance to hit hard and build up his power with each successful kill. By the end, Chimney Wallstop had stats of 9 melee attack, 5 speed, 1 shield, and 11 health... which is simply unstoppable.

Battle 7 - Win

Fog of War: Monsters lose the sneak and snipe abilities.
Keep Your Distance: Monsters with melee attack may not be used in battles.

Due to the low mana cap for this battle, and no melee allowed, I was quite limited in my card options. I opted for a magic attack strategy and used a -1 range summoners to try to counter a range attack strategy from my opponent. I didn't really have any good options to defend against a magic attack so I was very fortunate they didn't opt for that strategy.

I was able to use my Witch of Warick gladiator card for the first time in this battle. With 2 magic attack, Life Leech & Bloodlust abilities, this card seemed like a good choice here at only 5 mana.

Final Thoughts

This was a fun brawl and I was able to use a couple of my Gladiator cards and start to understand how they work best. It's clear that Chimney Wallstop is going to be a major feature in my future brawls... that card is insane when paired with Yodin and the blast ability.

I'm looking forward to expanding my Gladiator card collection and finding out how best to deploy them in these Untamed frays. I'm hoping that if I can get a good enough Gladiator strategy that I could cut back on the cost of my Untamed rentals for these brawls.

1Up Project

If you haven't seen the news yet, check out the new 1UP project. This looks like a great new gaming project for Play2Earn blockchain games like Splinterlands! I seem to be getting around 100 OneUp tokens on each of these posts, so the earnings will add up over time!

What is the @hive.pizza #BrawlReport?

@kennysgaminglife has spearheaded the #BrawlReport project as a way to get PIZZA guild members more engaged in the @Splinterlands community. Here's what he had to say:

Starting with the brawl that just ended, I've invited/asked members of the #HivePizza guild to publish a #BrawlReport, breaking down their highs & lows, where they need help, questions they have, strategies they love, and so on. The idea is to help us all reflect a bit, learn a bit, share a bit, earn a bit, and connect a bit :-)
Any other guilds interested in publishing a #BrawlReport, either as individuals, or one for the whole guild, I'm happy to send some curation love your way!
