SPS Governance Proposal - Pay Bug Bounty to louis88
The purpose of this proposal is to both disclose a critical bug that was discovered in the SPS Validator Software by user @louis88 and to also request that the SPS DAO pay a bounty for the responsible disclosure of this bug. The bug was reported within minutes, patched within 30 minutes and a full scan of the entire database verified that the bug was not previously utilized to steal funds.
We've had multiple developers run further security evaluations and scans of the Validator software and are currently exploring options for additional security checkups. Security is a top priority for any blockchain project and we're extremely grateful to Louis for promptly disclosing this issue and helping to secure the network. Due to the severity and nature of this bug as well as the responsible disclosure of the bug, myself (clayboyn) and many others that I've spoken to all agree that this warrants a substantial bug bounty.
Proposal
If this proposal passes, the SPS DAO will make a one time payment of 5,000 HBD to the @louis88 HIVE account for the prompt and responsible disclosure of a critical zero day exploit of the SPS Validator software.
Generally absolutely in favor of paying Louis for his great work, but without knowing too much about the extend of the issue, the amount seems too high for me.

I'll make it real short, we are getting lucky with louis excepting this amount. Coming from crypto, these bug can cost significantly more. Shouldn't even need a proposal IMO ....Maybe Splinterlands needs a bug bounty program with definitive guidelines. There was a lot at stake here. Also, who is in charge of writing the code and hence responsible for not finding the bug? They should be involved in some way, too. And I would like to read a statement of some sort, maybe a little more info. They're getting paid to do a save job, but they didn't, and now someone else is being paid for finding the flaws in their work.
I don't know how the coding industry works, but when my coworkers screw up, they have to pay part of the damage.

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years

I wasn't aware of the issue before but it sounds like it's well worth paying. I think it's good to incentivise this kind of behaviour. Well done to @louis88 for spotting the bug and the team for correcting it so quickly.
I am voting the proposal down for the following reasons
@louis88 handled the situation poorly, in the United States there is plenty of grounds to sue him and he can potentially go to jail if he doesn't have a very expensive lawyer. We won’t do it, but next time he won’t get the brownie points
Many community members feel the amount in excessive and the act is not “white hat” and rather borderline “grey hat”
So that’s my reasoning for downvoting.

When he wrote the post, he had already reported the bug, waited for response and gotten that... well, unprofessionally from what I know. The DAO states above that they patched the issue within 30min of receiving the report. Louis Article was on April 8th, the patch notes in the link say it was done April 21st. So that "within 30min" is a lie?
It seems people misunderstood.The post from louis88 they are referring to talks about a totally different vulnerability. He wrote about a vulnerability that could affect anyone who simply visits the site, probably a minor vulnerability like an IP leak.
The one he is asking the bug bounty for is a very critical one. He got access to 1.2B SPS tokens in the validator software. Imagine if a malicious hacker had access to that amount of tokens, they could have drained the whole SPS liquidity pool and dropped the price to zero.
Also, people are using penetration test prices as a reference, which is wrong. A penetration test is paid hourly, whether they find a vulnerability or not. In bug bounty the work is done for free, and payment is only made if a valid vulnerability is found.

Publicly announcing the discovery of a vulnerability in a well-known Hive "platform" can inadvertently draw attention to the broader Hive ecosystem and increase risk.

While bridge infrastructure is generally understood to be a common attack surface, the recent Hive Engine bridge incident underscores the importance of responsible disclosure. It also raises the broader question of how many other undiscovered vulnerabilities may still exist across the Hive ecosystem...

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years

If you didn't know I've been getting downvoted for a long time on Hive
They have been trying to bully me with downvotes and words but it doesn't affect me I've been online for over 25 years
So I've dealt with people like this before it's nothing new
But what they are doing is bad Very badi joined steemit like everyone else thinking it offers freedom but I must say steemit offered much more freedom than Hive does

Wait - I'm seeing several things here... Ok I read all the articles and comments... that took too much of my time.
Some thoughts before bed...
A. why in God's name DIDN'T we have a bounty for something like that? Why didn't anyone do pen tests? Why is AI so easily able to trash Hive Security and if it's THAT EASY... why must Splinterlands stick with it?
B. With those questions asked... we must all see that a Bounty for something like this is critical and whomever handled the prior situation with an aloof attitude...
Is that really the kind of mindset we can expect going forward? Big yikes if so.
C. Current and Future Bounty Sizing suggestions:
Current - I've seen hours/weeks etc and estimates come up to $2-3k... but then I see there were 1.2BN $SPS Tokens Vulnerable and that math came out to be like $4.8M USD...
So... $5,000 would be a .1% Bounty. Why does that seem so outlandish?
Furthermore, from all the harsh talk from AZ (shocking) about lawsuits and whatever it seems like AZ didn't like the manner in which this was done. However, a few weeks prior there was yet another vulnerability brought up where Louis was basically ignored and given $10...
You know what I am getting from all this... nothing positive. It seems a person who tried to do some "good" for the community was shunned perhaps unprofessionally... and then found a MASSIVE Exploit to which they said "Hey bros - I did you a HUGE favor here..." and asked for a POINT ONE PERCENT Fee as a Bounty Reward.
Here's where I stand with my meager vote and largely ignored voice:
Splinterlands can take a $5k Hit and survive - and we should be GRATEFUL for the help...
Splinterlands CAN'T take a $4.8M Hit and survive.
$4.8k would be my vote @louis88 - thank you for your efforts, glad it wasn't worse.
Perhaps there should be Tiered Bounties - I mean I report GUI Bugs all the time and never expect anything because they're just annoying...
Serious Security Issues SHOULD Reward White-Hats because then they're incentivized to beat the shit out of the Security and small-ish bounties can protect VERY LARGE AMOUNTS OF ASSESTS...
$0 In Game Bug Bounty - Tier 0 = Glint + Card Rewards?
$0-$500 Tier 1
$501-$2,500 Tier 2
$2,501-$5,000 Tier 3
$5,001+ = Tier 4 = .1% Of Possible Loss.
You guys throw in some input on Tiers 1-3.
I'll still report my issues and annoyances without expecting anything... and many of them eventually got fixed ( tons of people appreciate the "Pull Down & Hold to Refresh" after Battle Screen on the Mobile App).
