Big changes in the Splinterlands realm: since last maintenance window, bots are no longer allowed on modern format. And I'm really curious to see what comes out of it.

More than worrying about how will reward pools change, if wild format will become worse, or if rewards are going to increase on modern... I want to hear about gameplay experience! Being a game on web3, I believe sometimes the economy part gets considered before gameplay and user experience; and if by one hand we want Splinterlands economy to thrive, we do have to remember that Splinterlands is a game. And games are supposed to be fun! Games that are not fun to play have no players, and games that have no players don't last.

If human players, most of the time with not fully maxed decks to their current league, are paired most of the time with strong AI bots (who will inevitably have a higher win ratio longterm), it's comprehensible that gameplay starts to get frustrating after a while. Seeing again fully human vs human battles for a whole season brings me some hope that an improvement in the fun is noticeable... and let's take some lessons from there if it happens. If you think about web2 games, there are titles racking thousands of dollars, without the players getting any kind of in game ownership. Why do they pay, then? Well, because they have fun playing the games! And when we get to a point where players are willing to invest not because they might get more finantial rewards, but because they'll have more fun... then we'll be certainly on the right track; and if we can get both combined, even better!

Sign me up for that free stuff 👍 I only play wild and seems games are harder. I would like to see ban on bots in wild also. I was over 50% wins pretty consistently for awhile but with the latest changes I have been no where near 50%.

Yep, noticing the increase difficulty since a few seasons back, whenever they announced the intention of banning bots in modern; my guess is a lot of bot accounts swapped to wild sooner. Let's see how it goes, I believe bot ban will happen overall sooner or later.

I play in the Wild at Silver League level and I hope that the SPS holding requirement will keep most bots in the Bronze League for a while.

I'm curious to see what happens in modern league, if things improve the overall experience I can see bots leaving wild as well.

Thanks for your reply. After EOS I will switch to Modern as Wild rewards are almost worthless. I spend about 1000 DEC every few days renting cards so my return on investment in Wild has almost gone, leaving only Modern. Perhaps the time has come for Splinterlands to hard-fork into players and non-players?

I would say the time has come to ban bots alltogether. I don't know any game where having bots is an advantage.

Yes we no longer need these bots, especially for the Diamond and below levels where there are sufficient players to generate battles in a timely manner. If the Whales need them at Champion level, then let them use bots; otherwise, us smaller marine life certainly can do without bots! As far as I am aware, there are no other Hive Blockchain games using bots so perhaps non-players can be banned entirely as a condition for using this blockchain? Thanks for sharing - Ian.

I would say we never needed them, probably.I don't know any game, web 2 or web 3, where bots were good for the game. Let's see what the future will bring!
